I've seen things... Lucca Comics 2009

Mon Nov 2, 2009, 12:15 PM
:iconthelotrclub:
it was the first comic convention I ever attended, and it was mind-blowing. Both in good and bad sense. I've tried the Cintiq tablet, it's awesome, the day I'll win a lottery it will be mine. I've met some young authors, seen their stuff, explored huge pavilions filled with comic books, novels, computer games, gadgets, even costumes and rubber weapons for Live Action RPGs (next year I plan to be there among the sellers, profits are granted). I found things I wouldn't find here, and unfortunately I missed the chance of buying another Taniguchi's book, due to my limited budget. On the other hand I've seen poor stuff sold in huge amounts to gullible nerds, tin-made katanas at 30 euros (a proper katana is worth more than 200 euros, so I guess these are just for show), even a set of three for 50. It's no more a weapon, it's a trinket, just a way to "look like that character". And I've seen thousands of cosplayers, some great (three guys wore Worms costumes, they were amazingly funny), some not-so-impressive, some terrible. And on the whole they repeated themselves, with a great deal of Naruto, Dragonball, One-Piece, Bleach (next anime's title? "Softener"? "Rinse cycle"?), at least five Alices in Wonderland, three or four Wolverines, not to mention Gandalf, Harry Potter, etc. I make costumes for cosplayers and LARPG players, so I shouldn't mind, but seeing geeky people with huge bat wings and silly make-up and wigs going around waving impossible swords was just too much. Expecially when there were at least a dozen of them in the same outfit. Really, I felt sorry for them.
And like in Blade Runner, all of these things will be lost, like tears in the (nasty, freezing cold) rain... until next year.

In tutti i sensi.

This is not my real face, of course... but I'd love to look like that. Including the double chin. Like J.R.R. Tolkien used to say, I'm an hobbit in all but size (even if I don't smoke). I love simple life, good meals and laughter.

It wasn't enough, so I added you to my watch. You gallery is awesome! It reminds me of Turner, Previati, Blake and Moreau, all in one.
