Things changed quite a lot during  the last two years... I moved in with my fiancee and her two children (not to mention her dog!), and then moved again a couple of times, we're  thinking about bringing home one of our labrador's puppies, I changed school (from the north to the south of the province, but I hope it's for good), I started drawing a comic set in the early seventies, and lately I've begun rethinking my thesis on the Lord of the Rings.
Can I say I'm a grown up child?

Sono cambiate molte cose negli ultimi due anni... ho messo su casa con la mia ragazza ed i suoi due figli (per non parlare  del cane), traslocato un paio di volte, stiamo pensando  di prendere anche un cucciolo del nostro labrador, ho cambiato scuola (dal nord al sud della provincia,  spero che sia l'ultimo trasferimento), cominciato un fumetto  ambientato negli anni settanta, ultimamente sto anche ripensando la mia tesi sul Signore degli Anelli.
Posso definirmi un bambino grande?

Well, more than disappointed, pissed off. My father, last year, loaned some of his paintings for the last movie by Paolo and Vittorio Taviani, "Maraviglioso Boccaccio", based on the Decameron. He didn't ask anything but due credits. The movie hit italian theaters last week - and his name wasn't there. My family and I felt cheated. And rightly so, since the contract clearly stated that his name should appear in the closing credits. By the way, he didn't loan simple sketches - there was a gilded altarpiece there, plus something else in the same line. So, if anybody should wonder who made those paintings that appear in the novel of Calandrino, the author is Giuseppe Amadio, who was so proud of his free contribution to the movie and eager to see it. He had not the chance to, and so he was spared a huge disappointment, but we weren't, and all of us felt very bad for it. When giving credits, distraction is no excuse. Somehow, it feels worse than an intentional mistake, because it shows a lack of respect for those who aren't enough famous to trouble you. Well, let's see if they won't be troubled now.

Più che deluso, incazzato nero. Mio padre, l'anno scorso, aveva prestato alcuni dei suoi dipinti per l'ultimo film dei fratelli Taviani, "Maraviglioso Boccaccio", basato sul Decamerone. Non aveva chiesto nulla in cambio, se non il nome nei titoli di coda. Il film è arrivato nelle sale la settimana scorsa - ed il nome non c'era. La mia famiglia ed io ci siamo sentiti imbrogliati. Ed a buon titolo, visto che il contratto di comodato d'uso dichiarava esplicitamente che il suo nome dovesse comparire nei titoli. Per inciso, non è che avesse prestato dei bozzetti - c'era una pala d'altare a fondo oro, più altre cose nello stesso stile. Quindi, se qualcuno è interessato a sapere chi ha fatto i dipinti che compaiono nella novella di Calandrino, l'autore è Giuseppe Amadio, che era così orgoglioso del suo contributo gratuito al film e così ansioso di vederlo. Non ne ha avuto la possibilità, quindi gli è stata risparmiata una grossa delusione, ma a noi no, e ci siamo sentiti malissimo. Quando si mettono i crediti, la distrazione non è una scusa. In un certo senso, pare pure peggio di una mancanza intenzionale, perché mostra mancanza di rispetto verso quelli non abbastanza famosi per dare preoccupazioni. Beh, vediamo se non saranno preoccupati ora.

The last two months have been quite a strain on my nerves, due to my recent bereavement and all its consequences (I wish I'll never spend that kind of Christmas holidays again!) and it did affect my creativity too. Luckily, last week I found an old painting I made some thirteen years ago, and working on it gave me back the will to paint, since it also helps me recovering from stress. It really works! The downside of it is that oil painting takes a loooong time to dry... so it will take a while before I post anything I'm working on at the moment, except for digital painting.

Gli ultimi due mesi sono stati durissimi per i miei nervi, per via del recente lutto e di tutte le sue conseguenze (spero vivamente di non passare mai più delle vacanze di Natale di questo tipo!) e questo ha influenzato anche la mia creatività. Per fortuna, la scorsa settimana ho trovato un vecchio dipinto che avevo fatto circa tredici anni fa, e lavorarci sopra mi ha ridato la voglia di dipingere, visto che per di più mi aiuta a riprendermi dallo stress. Oh, funziona! Il lato negativo è che alla pittura a olio ci vuole taaaanto a seccarsi... quindi ci vorrà un po' prima che posti qualcosa di quello a cui sto lavorando, tranne la pittura digitale. 

In the last months I had to draw illustrations for a children book. 31 illustrations, actually. This is the reason I have been posting close to nothing recently. Later I could post the whole collection, if the publisher agrees.

Negli ultimi mesi ho dovuto illustrare un libro per bambini. 31 illustrazioni (boia dé che fatica!). È per questo che non ho postato quasi niente ultimamente. Magari più in là pubblico tutta la collezione, se l'editore me lo permette.

In my spare time (which is painfully little) I'm working on two characters set in different stories. One is  Etienne, a big and burly con-man, ex-indentured oarsman, with an agenda of vengeance on his former partner, forcefully enlisted as agent for an unscrupulous noble; the other is Sergio, a sixteen-years-old italian boy stranded in an extremely unimaginative and boring fantasy world - everything goes according to Diana Wynne-Jones' "Tough Guide to Fantasyland" - where he's forced to be the sidekick of a cocky, overbearing would-be hero while fending off the advances of the regular red-haired harridan (who should actually harass the hero, and that's where things get complicated).

Nel mio tempo libero (che è ahimè assai poco) sto lavorando su due personaggi di due differenti storie. Uno è Etienne, un truffatore grande e grosso, ex rematore forzato, con propositi di vendetta per il suo ex compare, arruolato suo malgrado come agente di un nobile senza scrupoli; l'altro è Sergio, un sedicenne italiano sperdutosi in un mondo fantasy noiosissimo e stereotipato - funziona tutto secondo le regole di "Tough Guide to Fantasyland" di Diane Wynne-Jones - dove è costretto a fare da spalla a un arrogante e presuntuoso aspirante eroe mentre cerca di difendersi dalle avances della solita rossa rompiscatole (che in effetti dovrebbe molestare l'eroe, ed è qui che le cose si complicano).
Che ne pensate?
